Northeastern University’s Institutional Master Plan Comes to Life with New Responsive Design Website Launch

Northeastern University began preparing their latest IMP (Institutional Master Plan) for expansion in late 2011 and completed the process two years later, when the Boston Redevelopment Authority formally approved their plan in November 2013.

NU’s IMP focuses on improving their physical campus, the experiences of their students, and achieving the transformation of NU into a Leading Research University. Current and future students, faculty and even alumni will all benefit from this IMP in their own ways.

After that approval, Northeastern and NBBJ (their architectural group) began exploring new ways to share IMP’s and gain community approval. At the time, IMP’s were only available for community review in person, by flipping through a document the size of a phone book.

Working in partnership with Northeastern and NBBJ, we transformed the Northeastern University IMP “phone book” into a fully interactive website, putting their IMP information at the community’s fingertips. Being able to see their 3D renderings, sketches, and glimpses into the school’s evolution as we put together their project? Priceless.

Their new responsive website design and CMS platform gives them the flexibility to continually update their website as their long-term project evolves. From rotating homepage hero images, showcasing the great work to come, to an evolving campus map showing NU evolve over the years, we tailored our solutions around to their specific goals and needs.

We’re proud to see NU’s new site launched and to do our small part for the future of this great university. We’re even more excited to see them open up the discussion on social media as the project evolves, as suggested by our very own Michael Austin.

Good luck, NU. We can’t wait to see all of these exciting changes come to life.
